Sitka's Police Academy location

Hi there~
My family currrently lives in North Pole. My husband will be attending the State Police Acedemy in a couple of weeks. I would like to visit him once or twice over the next 3 months with our two small children(1 and 2 years). A friend said the town is small enough to walk around, and not to worry about a car. Where would the best place to stay in relation to the academy be? Thanks
