Cell Service question

We will be moving to Sitka in April. Does Verison cellular service work well there? Any recommendations are welcome.

I was in Sitka during the summer of 2008 and carry Verizon as my cell provider. I had no problems getting calls in & out while i was there.

Service providers are AT&T and Acs (CDMA like verizon). Things will be fine if you have a nationwide plan or roaming.

Verizon basic service works here, but no extended services like 3g.

Verizon works here, you want to check with them to make sure the plan you have will work here. My phone worked fine...it was the roaming charges that I was not happy with. I had to call the store I actually had went to before I moved here to get the charges removed. It was the store where I asked them to pull up the map to make sure I would not be charged anything extra. They had told me no problem, I had the national plan and would not be charged anything extra. It was not true. My advise is be very careful and get it in writing from them.

Does Sprint work well in Sitka too?

Both work here but not accepttionally well. I have three coworkers with Verizon and one with Sprint. They seem to have decent service, as with any other cell company in town.

Thanks everyone. We went with Verison because it is also in our other location. It works well so far. Excited to be in Sitka and looking forward to our season of work.
